Universal Free School Meals for Years R-2

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 can have a FREE school meal every day.

This year, big changes have happened to school food.  The government has transformed who gets free meals, what children eat and how they learn about food.  Long gone are the fatty crisps and salty chips! From September, EVERY pupil attending state funded English schools in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will be eligible for free school meals and, thanks to the improved food standards, children will get the nutrition they need at lunch and break-times. Evidence from areas already providing universal free school meals show that children eating more healthily actually perform better in the classroom.  Schools have reported better behavior and a nicer atmosphere as a result of pupils eating together every day, so it’s great for children’s social skills too. There are no forms to complete for your child to receive a free school meal – they just have to tell their teacher, when asked at registration time, that they would like a school meal that day.

The purpose of this trip was to support the learning challenge topic- 'Can we help Little Red Riding Hood learnt about Plants?'. On this trip the children learnt about plants and trees. They enjoyed exploring the outdoor area and participated in  activities including:  Leaf Identification, Scavenger Hunt, Leaf Printing and Natural Art. A great time was had by all and the trip made the topic come to life. If you would like to see Photos of the trip please go to our gallery.

Year 6 Beginning of Year Mass

On Thursday 11th Sept, our Year 6 pupils led a wonderful ‘beginning of year’ Mass.  We were delighted to welcome Father Paul from St Joseph’s Church who celebrated Mass for us.  We were all uplifted by the beautiful singing and reverence shown by the children.  Thank you Miss Gandey and Miss Walsh for organising this and to Millie and Filip who were altar servers.
